Knots Racing tie up another regatta win_2

Knots Racing have little time to celebrate their latest regatta win with a busy schedule of events over the next three months in the United States and Europe.

The team of helm Nick Egnot-Johnson, Sam Barnett and Zak Merton won the grade two OM International Ledro Match Race in Italy after they beat the defending champions skippered by Estonia's Mati Sepp in the final.

That win came on the back of their victory at last month's prestigious Match Race Germany, a grade one event.

Egnot-Johnson and Barnett now head to California, where they will be joined by Alistair Gifford, to prepare for the Govenors Cup (July 15-20).

They will then enjoy a couple of weeks back in New Zealand before heading to the Youth Match Racing world championships in Russia (August 11-17), the M32 world championships at Lake Garda (Aug 26-30), the Oakcliff International Match Race Regatta in New York (Sept 1-4) and the Thompson Cup Match Racing.

Egnot-Johnson is now up to a career-high best of 11th in the world match racing rankings and made a strong impression at this year's Congressional Cup, when Knots Racing were fifth in their first outing at the famed regatta.

They came fifth in a M32 European Series event in the Netherlands recently, their first foray into the M32 as they looked to gain catamaran experience.

"We are trying to diversify as much as we can," Egnot-Johnson said. "I love the M32. It is simple to sail, there are only four ropes and two sails to worry about. It's a good, quick boat."
