Greetings from Perth, Today was a lesson for us in how to match race in the breeze as the ‘Fremantle doctor’ came in strong this afternoon blowing 25-30 knots.
It was a fairly brutal day on the water with two big collisions in other matches, with boats holed and points deducted for boats in the wrong. Added to this were a couple of injuries to the team.
Late addition, 13 year old Matt Bindon was flung out of the boat with by the mainsheet through a gybe during the prestart of our second to last race of the day. We quickly circled around and picked him up, and he stayed downstairs for the rest of the race which we narrowly lost to Robert Gibbs of Perth. He suffered bruising and moderate rope burn to his neck and chin. Despite having the option he refused to get off for the next race.
This was another tight one which we came out on the wrong side of, losing to Kyle Langford of Sydney. In this race Tom’s knee took a fairly big collision with the side of the cockpit splitting the skin open. After a bit of patching up, a good night sleep should see us right for tomorrow.
We finished the day with a scorecard of 2 wins and 4 losses. Results and injuries meant not such a good day on the water. After a rusty start to the day, we felt it was coming together towards the end, so we’ll be out fighting tomorrow.
